Bet Fach (Limited Print)

from £70.00

With a gentle, knowing gaze and a traditional cloak wrapped neatly around her shoulders, Bet Fach radiates quiet wisdom. Drawn from a 19th-century photograph by Welsh photographer John Thomas, this portrait reminds me of my own Nanny — full of strength, softness, and stories held in her eyes.

One of three women in the Welsh Ladies & Gentlemen Collection, Bet Fach wears the iconic tall hat and shawl of rural North Wales, symbols of heritage now rarely seen outside ceremonial occasions.

This limited edition print captures her in expressive, finely detailed linework, celebrating her place in Welsh visual history.

Reimagined in finely detailed pen-and-ink style, this larger format print brings even greater impact. At A2 size (42 cm by 59.4 cm), it makes a striking statement on the wall and allows the intricacy of the linework to shine. While it will fit a standard A2 frame, I recommend using a slightly larger frame with a mount to give the piece room to breathe and add a sense of formality.

This is part of the Welsh Ladies & Gentlemen Collection, celebrating six historical figures from Wales. Each one was carefully selected from the archives of the National Library of Wales and drawn with their permission.

This limited edition of 100 prints of my original illustration.
