Foraging for Mushrooms

£20.00

A fun detour from my usual style — for this piece I kept the watercolour neat and controlled, letting only the ink linework stay loose and wandering, chasing a look closer to the illustrations tucked inside old fairytale books.

Drawn from a reference photograph, this cluster of woodland mushrooms is likely a chestnut mushroom cluster, though I've kept the description a little open rather than commit to a species I can't be fully sure of.

Mushrooms have a permanent hold on me. I find them on dog walks, draw them at my desk, and — where I'm confident it's safe — forage and eat them too. My son recently gave me a lion's mane growing kit for my birthday, and watching it unfurl was genuinely magical. For me they're the smell of autumn arriving and the quiet folklore of the forest floor all rolled into one — humble little things that carry far more story than they're given credit for.

This is the first in a small trio of mushroom illustrations, each taking the same fairytale-leaning approach.
